Brakes are one of the most important aspect of any vehicle, may it be a bicycle, car or trucks. Brake pads have to be checked and changed from time to time because the safety during travel depends solely on the brakes. Brake pads come into variety of types like drum brakes and disk brakes. Drum brakes are the older version of brake pads which uses the hydraulic mechanism to create friction for stopping the motion of the vehicle. The problem with drum brakes is that the time required to stop the vehicle is considerably large as compared to disk brakes.
The disc brakes are a brake pads for vehicle wheels normally, in which a movable part (disk) integral with the spinning wheel is subjected to friction of surfaces of high coefficient of friction (pads) exerted on them a force sufficient to transform all or part of the kinetic energy of the moving vehicle into heat, to stop or slow down, as the case. This immense amount of heat must be dissipated somehow and as quickly as possible. The mechanism is similar in that the drum brake, with the difference that the braking surface is lower but the heat dissipation to the environment is much better, less widely compensating braking surface.
